The author's home.
A beer brewer built it over 100 years ago. He lived in it for over 50 years.  Then an  Insurance agent bought it and he lived in it for 40 years.  He improved upon it.  Now the author and his family are living it and he is also making improvements.

A view from his home up the hill.  This castle-like structure was also built  over 100 years ago.  A paved road leads up, where another eight homes are beautifully nestled in an tranquil environment.

  Humming_bird.JPG
The author's wife has a humming bird feeder, hanging from a rusty hook.   She likes them, because they are illegal immigrants, flying in from Mexico.  The author is observing the humming birds as they fight over a spot on the feeder.  Believe it or not, these birds are tough little creatures and they are fast.  They can flap their wings over 50 times per second, they can fly backwards and they can fly forward up to 35 miles per hour.  The author likes to watch them.  Humans can learn from humming birds.  They know how to bump each other and trick each other, twisting and turning, flying in a circle, in an attempt to gain physical advantage by the feeder.  And all this for only a few drops of honey — in this case it’s only sugar water.  The author's wife prepares such a convincing solution that she can fool the humming birds easily.

CoCo is the name of the cat.  She is Siamese and belongs to the Author’s wife.  The wife trained her to ‘stay around the house’.  Vermin attracts her and she has to sniff it out.  Unfortunately, she will catch rats only beyond her designated borders and then take them to the author's porch.

The author's wife almost collided with a full-grown black bear on route 866 on her way home.  The author was fortunate enough to capture this moment.  He sent the picture to a local television station and he received a letter of appreciation.

The Tragedy of Flight 93

On September  11, 2001 forty passengers and crew lost their lives on a United Airlines 757 Boeing jet, Flight 93.  It happened in Stoney Creek Township near  Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  At 10:06 A.M., the jet plunged from the sky into a rural field, caused by the 9-11 high jacking. Forty passengers on the plane decided to fight back against the hijackers under extreme circumstances, diverting another catastrophe somewhere else in the United States.  These passengers are listed in the history books as heroes.

Frank_Lloyd_Wright.jpgThe author and his daughter, Andrea, visited Fallingwaters, at Mills Run, Pennsylvania.  Frank Lloyd Wright designed this home in accord with Wright’s desire to place the residents close to nature, with water running under part of the building.  At the same time, he incorporated his cantilever designs show in the picture.  Andrea took pictures of this famous home for one of her projects at the Arts Institute of Pittsburgh.

20111001_11.JPGThe author’s wife was dog sitting her son’s greyhound dogs, Ben and Alice.  They are surprisingly gentle and they existed in the 5th century BC.  When owners used them for racing, they can reach speeds up to 45 MPH.  Unfortunately, most greyhounds are put to sleep, once their racing career ends.
